Khao Lak is surrounded by some of the most beautiful Islands in all of Thailand. You have likely heard of some of them. Notably the Similan Islands and Surin Islands are growing in popularity every year.
The wonderfully vibrant Marine life, crystal clear waters and soft, white beaches attract visitors from around the world. What most people don’t know is that there are some equally stunning Islands, secretly hidden away from all the crowds.
At Ao Thong Beach Bungalows, Mr Neung strives to show you the very best that the area has to offer. If you are looking for a unique experience in your time here then check out these two tropical island paradises. The incomparable bio-diversity of Koh Prathong and the entirely undeveloped, unseen and untouched Koh Kam Archipelago.
These tours will show you a side of Thailand that most people don’t get to see. Bring back that sense of adventure to your holiday and let Mr Neung know you’re interested so he can tell you all about it.
Just north of Khao Lak is a secret called ‘The Island of the Golden Monk’. An Island of crystal clear azure waters, pristine golden beaches and ecosystems incomparable to anywhere else in the area.
A trip to this Paradise Island will leave you stunned at how much diversity and natural wonder you can see in such a short time. Begin the day by heading to Ban Nam Khem pier which is located conveniently just 10 minutes north of our Khao Lak Bungalows. Then enjoy the High-end speedboat journey through the Mangrove forests that will bring you to Koh Prathong.
Koh Prathong Tour
First, bear witness to the more cultural aspect of the Island at the local fishing Village. The smiles on people’s faces and welcoming attitude show a Thai culture unaffected by mass tourism. Walk around the bamboo huts and visit the turtle sanctuary.
Then, to travel in style, hop into one of the local Tak Tak cars for a journey through four separate ecological zones. See a plethora of flora and fauna including rare orchids, birds, deer, wild boar and innumerable other species. Mangrove forests give way to dense hardwood jungle.
Then, travel through Thailand’s answer to Africa, in the Savannah like Grasslands. Finally pass through thick Pine forests to arrive at the golden beach where you will stop for Lunch. You will have the afternoon to relax on the beach or snorkel over the corals teeming with a variety of Marine life. Then enjoy the scenic trip back to Ban Nam Khem Pier.
You will be back early enough to grab the best spot at our Khao Lak restaurant and order a nice cool beverage to watch the warm glow of the Sunset.
Koh Kam Archipelago
Where Koh Prathong has a small fishing Village, Koh Kam has only natural beauty. Somehow, the five Islands of Koh Kam Archipelago have remained entirely undeveloped and untouched. That islands like this can still exist, so close to such popular and busy areas, is almost unbelievable.
If you really want to see deserted picture postcard beaches, then this is the trip for you. If you do see anyone else on the island, it will likely be local Thais spending their free leisure time here. Koh Kam remained undeveloped due to its lack of arable land or natural resources. This has left the Islands hidden away from civilisation so it can transport you to a different world.
Koh Kam Tour
The day has a similar start with the spectacular speedboat journey through the mangroves, but this will take you much further north, close to the border of Myanmar.
Your first stop will be at Yipon Island for snorkelling and beach time. Then head off to what is definitely the highlight of the day. The Secret Lagoon is what you dreamed Paradise would be. A small white sand beach curves around you, leading to rock formations on either edge. This forms a completely protected Lagoon perfect for snorkelling in the cool blue waters.
If you have had enough of stunning scenery, just turn your head to see the equally impressive mountainous backdrop.
After your traditional Thai buffet lunch, head down to Koh Kow for a visit to ‘Nemo Village’. This will give you the opportunity to snorkel with many of the famous clownfish.
There will still be time for one last stop off at Hin Kanaa; an interesting rock formation also excellent for snorkelling. Mr Neung brings you these fascinating and unique tours in conjunction with Similancharter and Tour, Khao Lak’s most reputable and safest tour operator. You can benefit from their experience and knowledge to take you to secret Islands hidden away from the hordes of other tourists.
If you have any further questions then just have a chat with Mr Neung once you arrive at Ao Thong Beach Bungalows and he will do everything to make your stay as pleasant and interesting as possible.
